Hank Boerner Hank BoernerHank Boerner serves of counsel as a senior strategist for Boerner Communications client programs. He has over three decades of a wide range of experience in the fields of marketing, public affairs, corporate communications, issue management, financial communications, and crisis and issues management. Hank has advised senior management clients in the corporate, not-for-profit, public sectors, and professional practices. Boerner provides clients with senior level advice and effective strategies to help them position their organizations for success in marketing, shaping corporate reputation, positioning the enterprise for success among key constituencies and stakeholders, influencing key market segments, dealing with public policy issues, and integrating all elements of communication to achieve the best results. Hank has extensive experience in helping corporations meet external challenges posed by a variety of factors – including changes in their operating environment such as marketplace challenges (including product safety issues), regulatory affairs, financial difficulties, public sector policies that affect the business enterprise, consumer behavior, catastrophic events, and more. He was Managing Director NY Region and Partner of Rowan & Blewitt for almost two decades; the firm was one of the premier crisis and issue management consultancies serving the Fortune 500 and multinational enterprises. During his career Hank has assisted clients in more than 300 crisis and critical issues and situations. Over the past three decades Hank Boerner has advised companies in such sectors and industries as: healthcare services and facilities, pharmaceuticals, chemical manufacturing, biotechnology, information technologies, restaurants and food service, food manufacturing, auto manufacturing, aerospace manufacturing, cruise lines, domestic and global airlines, telephone carriers, building materials manufacturing, banking, financial services, and consumer marketing. He has also advised a number of professional membership organizations, and not-for-profit (social sector) enterprises. Before becoming a consultant, Boerner was a vice president and senior communications manager for the New York Stock Exchange, responsible for communication with a range of constituents. His concept work on NYSE communications for the 24-hour, electronic marketplace established the framework that over time led today’s network of global trading systems. He has held senior public relations, marketing and public affairs posts with the NYS Metropolitan Transportation Authority and was a member of the staff of New York State Governor Nelson Rockefeller. He began his corporate career as a manager at American Airlines, where he held a number of management positions, including national manager of corporate responsibility / corporate affairs program (this was a pioneering effort on the part of the airline). Boerner created effective marketing and product positioning programs for consumer and business segments; created and managed the airline’s national corporate responsibility programs (such as American Youth Beauty Workshop, American Youth Performs, inner city corporate-sponsored schools, college & university drama competitions, and other corporate citizenship endeavors). Earlier in his career, Boerner was a financial and business editor of newspapers and magazines, and a radio and television news broadcaster. He is contributing editor and corporate governance commentator for Corporate Finance Review (a Thomson-Reuters global publication); and, for three years served as editor of IR Update, published by the National Investor Relations Institute. Boerner serves as an independent arbitrator and mediator, a Panel Arbitrator of the American Arbitration Association and a is member of the American Bar Association’s of Resolution Dispute. He is a former chair of the Issue Management Council, a global membership organization whose members manage issues at corporations in many sectors, including oil and gas, energy, consumer goods, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, biotech, auto manufacturing, electronics, aerospace, and medical devices. Hank Boerner presently serves as Chairman of the Governance & Accountability Institute, a research, advisory, think tank and publishing organization focused on Sustainability, Corporate Responsibility and ESG Investing (environmental, social and governance). |
